"In the summer of 1969, before his senior year in high school, Duffy grew frustrated with the constant breakdowns of his family's gas-powered runabout. He was advised by his friend Kurt Olsen that one way to solve the problem would be to put a golf cart motor in it. Duffy asked his father for a $300 loan to buy an old cart with an electric motor. Outside a Quonset hut his father owned on 17th Street in Costa Mesa, Duffy and his friend Jack A. Heiser tested the first electric engine."*
After some improvements and design, Duffy Boats became what we know them as today!
All Duffy Boats are hand-crafted in the USA, in Adelanto, California. Each and every Duffy goes through the factory process below, including yours! From the beautifully hand-crafted fiberglass hulls to the delicately sewn Duffy Surry Tops.
It is easy to see how much attention is put into each and every boat. All materials are high quality and hand-crafted, designed to hold-up through all environments (Duffy tops have actually been known to withstand hurricanes!).
